The strange thing about a launch is how quiet it is at your end. You spend a long time on a book, and then one morning it simply exists, out in the world, in other people's hands. And they don't wait. Within days readers were already deep in it — further and faster than I expected — and a few of them wrote to tell me so. That never stops being extraordinary.
For anyone arriving new: The War in the North was the war. The Far Watch is the watch — Captain Arder Tur Cide holding a frontier that was never meant to be held, beside people who have paid that price for five hundred years. It is grimmer and quieter than Book One, and I still think it is the best thing I have written.
If you have read Book One, you already know whether you want this. If you are new to the Chronicles, start wherever you like — the novella Footprints in the North is the quickest way in, The War in the North is the doorway, and The Far Watch is where the ground opens up beneath it all.
And Book Three, The Last Bridge, is already being written. The watch is not finished yet.
